Primary Election Day in South Carolina: Key Races to Watch
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Today, voters in South Carolina are participating in the statewide primaries. Here are seven significant races in the Lowcountry that could have a major impact leading up to the November elections.
US House District 1 – Republican Primary
In the Republican primary for US House District 1, incumbent Representative Nancy Mace faces a challenge from Catherine Templeton, former Director of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. Marine veteran Bill Young is also in the running, but has not been able to match the fundraising efforts of Mace or Templeton. Mace, with an endorsement from former President Donald Trump, holds the advantage of being the incumbent, while Templeton has ties to former Governor Nikki Haley.

Charleston County Sheriff – Republican Primary
Republican voters in Charleston County have four options to choose from for the next sheriff. Former Mount Pleasant Police Chief Carl Ritchie is seen as the frontrunner in the race, aiming to challenge incumbent Sheriff Kristin Graziano.
Dorchester County Sheriff – Republican/Democratic Primary
In Dorchester County, Republicans Sam Richardson and Mike Turner are competing to succeed the retiring sheriff, L.C. Knight. Democrats will choose between Charles Frederick III and Trumaine Moorer for their nominee.
