After the attack with a hammer on a taxi driver in the Rostock district of Warnemünde, the perpetrator is still on the run. The search for the approximately 30 to 40-year-old suspect, who is said to have worn a short full beard, has not been successful so far, as a police spokesman said on Monday. However, the instrument used in the crime – a hammer – was secured at the crime scene.

The passenger, who, according to the police, was about 1.85 meters tall, had long black hair and is said to have worn a short coat, drove about ten kilometers from a restaurant in the Rostock city port to a housing estate in Warnemünde shortly after midnight on Sunday morning. Arriving at the destination, the perpetrator is said to have hit the 59-year-old taxi driver in the head with a hammer and fled. There shouldn’t have been a dispute beforehand.

The taxi driver suffered serious head injuries but was able to get help himself. He was seriously injured in a clinic, there is no danger to life, said a spokeswoman. The motive for the attack is still unclear. According to the taxi guideline, the fare would have been around 40 to 50 euros for the night trip.
