A Bundeswehr soldier stationed in Lower Saxony is said to have killed his ex-girlfriend, also a soldier, with a knife. The Koblenz public prosecutor is investigating on suspicion of manslaughter against the 32-year-old, as the senior public prosecutor Harald Kruse announced on Monday. The accused is in custody in Rhineland-Palatinate. The district court of Koblenz issued an arrest warrant because of the risk of absconding.

The soldier is said to have killed the 21-year-old last Friday and transported her body in the passenger seat in a car. On the Frankfurt-Cologne autobahn (A3) near the Dierdorf junction (Neuwied district), he drove his car into a crash barrier late in the evening. The woman’s body was found in the passenger seat. The soldier last worked in Koblenz and is said to have been in a relationship with the alleged perpetrator in the past. Investigators did not give any further details.
