It has been almost two months since the former president of Eintracht Frankfurt, Rolf Heller, died in Weimar, Thuringia. Now it is rumored that he may have been killed. The public prosecutor’s office in Erfurt is investigating the suspicion that Heller was the victim of a homicide. A spokesman for the Erfurt public prosecutor confirmed on Saturday that investigations had been ongoing since the end of October. “There is an initial suspicion and the possibility that a crime has been committed.” The investigations were directed against two people. Several media had previously reported on the case.
The investigation got under way after a relative reported to the police with the suspicion that a criminal offense could have been committed, said the prosecutor. The planned cremation at the end of October was stopped by the investigators. An autopsy had been ordered. After that, the suspicion of third-party negligence arose when Heller died.
Investigations are currently being carried out on suspicion of a homicide – i.e. murder or manslaughter. The spokesman left open when the investigation could be completed. “There is no urgent suspicion. That’s why no one is in custody.” The “Hessenschau” reported on Saturday morning about two suspects, citing a spokesman for the authority. The spokesman said nothing about who the suspects were and referred to the ongoing investigations.
According to the club, Heller died at the end of October in his adopted home of Weimar after a long illness at the age of 78. He held the office of President of Eintracht Frankfurt from 1996 to early 2000. At the beginning of December, Eintracht said goodbye to Heller with its own event. According to “Hessenschau”, 150 companions, friends and members took part in the commemoration. As Peter Fischer, current Eintracht President, mentioned at the celebration, Eintracht was unloaded at the funeral in the main cemetery in Weimar at the end of November.
