India went all out and fired a bunch of missiles into Pakistan overnight on Tuesday, which Pakistan is not too happy about. They’re calling it an “act of war” and are feeling the need to respond. The attacks, called Operation Sindoor (not sure where they get these names from), hit up nine spots of “terrorist infrastructure” in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, according to the Indian Defense Ministry.
Indian Defense Ministry claims they didn’t target any Pakistani military spots, and they’re trying to play it cool by calling their actions “focused, measured and non-escalatory.” On the other hand, the Pakistani army is saying India hit up five locations, including Kotli, Muzaffarabad, and Bahawalpur. Apparently, three people died and 12 got injured, according to the Pakistani army. That’s pretty rough.
Pakistan’s prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, seems pretty fired up about the whole thing. He’s saying Pakistan has the right to hit back hard at India for this “act of war.” It sounds like they’re ready to respond from both the air and ground.
This whole mess started because India thinks Pakistan was behind a deadly attack in Kashmir back in April. The attack, known as the Pahalgam incident, left 26 people dead in Indian-held Kashmir. India was not having it and decided to take matters into their own hands. They’re basically saying, “Justice is served.”
President Donald Trump heard about the missile attack and called it “a shame.” He’s hoping this whole situation gets resolved quickly. The State Department is keeping an eye on things but doesn’t have much to say about it yet. They’re just like, “We’re watching, but we don’t have any hot takes right now.”
It seems like the Trump administration has been on India’s side when it comes to terrorism. They’ve been pressuring Pakistan to condemn that attack in Kashmir. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the gang have been trying to prevent India from going all out on Pakistan.
So yeah, that’s the gist of what’s going on. Not really sure why this matters, but it’s definitely a tense situation. Hopefully, things calm down soon before it gets even messier.
