A special quiche is the official dish of street celebrations in Britain for the coronation of King Charles III. and Queen Camilla. The palace shared the recipe for the “Coronation Quiche” on Monday, which was personally selected by the royal couple. A chef in a white uniform can be seen preparing the food in a video shared on the Royal Family’s official Twitter account.

The “Coronation Big Lunch” is scheduled for May 7, the day after the coronation at London’s Westminster Abbey. People across the country should meet for street festivals, tea parties and other events.

The dish is a “quiche with a crispy, light crust and delicate flavors of spinach, broad beans and fresh tarragon,” it said. “Served hot or cold with a green salad and boiled new potatoes – perfect for a Coronation Big Lunch.” British news agency PA stressed that quiche is known as a French dish but is thought to have originated in Germany in the Middle Ages. Charles also has German roots. Since 2013, Camilla has been a patron of the Big Lunch initiative, which aims to bring neighbors and communities together.

It was initially unclear whether the quiche would also make it onto the menu for the official coronation dinner. For the coronation of Charles’ mother Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, a special chicken dish called “Coronation Chicken” was created.
