For a week, his family was looking for Hans Mack, a German living in Thailand. Local police apparently found his body on Monday. The missing person may have been the victim of a crime. Now the police suspect three other Germans.

This is reported by several local media and also the “Bild”. According to “Pattaya News”, the body was discovered in a freezer of an apartment building on Monday evening (local time). According to coroners, it is said to have been divided up and distributed in several black plastic bags, the newspaper reports. The police came across the house through footage from surveillance cameras after a pickup had transported the freezer through the city. The footage also shows a European-looking man sitting next to the chest.

The police are now investigating three German citizens who are said to have known Mack for murder. Two of them are said to live in the house where the body was found. According to neighbors, the two were interrogated by the police on Sunday, i.e. before the body was found. They are said to have refused to testify, reports the German-language local media “Der Farang”. The two are said not to have been present during the search, reports “Pattaya News”, citing statements from the neighbors.

According to the police, further details, including possible arrest warrants, will be announced during the course of Tuesday.

As “Pattaya News” claims to have learned from police circles, the death of the German is said to be related to his real estate business in Thailand. According to the authorities, he met a German on business, reports “Pattaya News”. Mack is said to have sent an SMS to his wife from the meeting. Then he disappeared without a trace. According to the newspaper, two million baht (about 52,000 euros) were then transferred abroad from Mack’s account.

It had been suspected for several days that the German had fallen victim to a crime. The police found Mack’s Mercedes in a supermarket parking lot last week, almost 230 kilometers from his home in Pattaya. According to the officials, the car had been chemically cleaned “to destroy evidence.” The family had appealed to the public in a Facebook appeal, offering a reward of three million baht for information. With Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn, one of the country’s best-known police officers had taken on the case.
