According to the broadcaster, RTL journalist Liv von Boetticher, together with criminal lawyer Julia von Dreden, has filed a complaint with the Cologne public prosecutor’s office against the prosecutor’s actions in the case of the missing Tengelmann billionaire Karl-Erivan Haub.

The lawyer is therefore demanding that the authorities initiate “a formal investigation” against Christian Haub, the younger brother of the missing businessman. It was said that he had submitted an allegedly false affidavit. In May 2021, the 59-year-old stated that he had no indication or evidence that his brother could still be alive. Lawyer Julia von Dreden, on the other hand, considers it “absolutely unrealistic” that Christian Haub did not want to hear anything about “his staged disappearance” more than two years after his brother’s disappearance. Christian Haub also claims that he hired investigators to look into the case “for the first time in November 2020”. According to RTL, this is also refuted by other documents. However, the Cologne public prosecutor’s office does not yet see any initial suspicion of a crime.

Against this background, it is “more than just doubtful” that the senior public prosecutor in charge dealt with the criminal complaint “at all legally and actually within the scope of the investigation obligation imposed on him by law,” said von Dreden. With their complaint, the lawyer and the journalist now want to force the affidavit to be re-examined – in the hope of shedding more light on the mysterious case.

One consequence of the affidavit was the declaration of death for Karl-Erivan Haub, also in May 2021 – and with it the billion-dollar deal within the family to settle the inheritance. Christian Haub now controls the company’s fortunes.

Karl-Erivan Haub has been missing since a ski trip on the Matterhorn in 2018 and was declared dead by the Cologne district court in May 2021. However, research by stern and RTL indicates that the former Tengelmann boss could still be alive. RTL reporter Liv von Boetticher had received indications that he was said to have been in Moscow at least temporarily in 2021. Rumors persist that the former Tengelmann boss may have deliberately caused his disappearance in Zermatt in order to start a new life in Russia.
