So, like, President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico totally spilled the tea on Saturday, revealing that Trump was all like, “Hey, how about I send some troops to help you fight drug trafficking in Mexico?” And Sheinbaum was just like, “Uh, no thanks, President Trump.” She straight up shut him down during a rally in eastern Mexico in response to an article in the Wall Street Journal that spilled the beans on a tense phone call they had where Trump was like pressuring her to let the U.S. military get more involved in fighting drug cartels in Mexico. She was all about that sovereignty, saying it’s not up for grabs and that it’s something to be cherished and protected.
The White House didn’t even bother to respond right away to Sheinbaum’s comments, which is kind of shady if you ask me. But like, the U.S. has been beefing up its military presence along the southern border with Mexico, especially after Trump gave the green light in January to ramp up the army’s role in stopping the flow of migrants. The U.S. Northern Command has been sending more troops and equipment to the border, stepping up surveillance flights to keep an eye on fentanyl trafficking, and pushing for Special Forces to team up with Mexican forces in taking down the cartels.
Trump even went as far as labeling a bunch of those gangs and cartels smuggling drugs into the U.S. as foreign terrorist organizations back in February, which basically means they’re in big trouble now. But Sheinbaum was not having any of this talk about the U.S. military coming in and taking over. She made it clear that while they can work together on stuff like immigration and trade, the U.S. needs to stay on its side of the border. She straight up said, “We will never accept the presence of the United States military in our territory.” Mic drop!
It seems like things are getting pretty tense between Sheinbaum and Trump, especially after all that cooperation they’ve had in the past. But hey, maybe it’s just me, but I feel like this whole situation is about to blow up real soon. Who knows what’s gonna happen next, right? Like, not really sure why this matters, but it’s definitely gonna be interesting to see how this all plays out. So, buckle up, folks, ’cause it looks like things are about to get wild in the world of international politics.
