Gold is popular, but has little practical use. Some dentists still make bridges and crowns from gold alloys; Industry also uses gold in small quantities, for example in smartphones. But gold is mostly used as an investment or as jewelry. It has a subjective value that we humans attribute to it. And the ecological balance of the precious metal? It is, in short, catastrophic.
