In Leipzig, medical practices, rooms in medical care centers and apartments were searched on Tuesday. Ten doctors and two commercial executives were being investigated, among other things on suspicion of fraud and bodily harm, the public prosecutor’s office and the police announced on Tuesday afternoon. The searches are still ongoing, so patients could be adversely affected.

Six suspects are being investigated for fraud. Between 2017 and 2021, they are said to have systematically incorrectly billed medical treatments individually or collectively. The amount of damage caused has not yet been quantified.

In addition, six people are being investigated on suspicion of bodily harm. They would be accused of carrying out operations incorrectly. Some of them are also suspected of having performed surgical procedures that were not medically necessary. In addition, three people are being investigated for violating the Medicines and Medicines Advertising Act.

Police and prosecutors searched around 30 objects. Around 300 officers were deployed. Evidence such as business documents, cell phones and computers were seized. The State Criminal Police Office and employees of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in Saxony were also involved in the searches.
