India Currents Shines Bright at 2024 SF Press Club Gala
Five outstanding journalists from India Currents took home prestigious awards at the 47th San Francisco Press Club gala on December 4, held at the elegant Julia Morgan Ballroom in downtown San Francisco. This year’s event, featuring a record-breaking 798 entries, celebrated the best in journalism, highlighting the incredible talent within the industry.
Capturing South Asian Identity Through Photography
Photojournalist Sree Sripathy stole the show by winning First Place for Digital Media, Photography/Photo Series with her captivating project, “We Belong.” This series beautifully captured the diverse experiences of South Asian identity through intimate portraits and in-depth interviews with Bay Area South Asians. Her work is currently on display at various locations across the San Jose Public Library system, leaving a lasting impact on all who encounter it.
Honoring Cricket’s Rise in the U.S.
The team of Tanay Gokhale, Ashir Rao, and Adi Anand secured Second Place in the Digital Media, Columns-Sport category for their brilliant piece, “Cricket Fever.” This ode to the growing popularity of cricket in the United States shed light on the passion and enthusiasm surrounding the sport. Gokhale’s coverage of a thrilling World Cup cricket watch party titled, ‘The Winners At An India v Pakistan World Cup Watch Party In Berkeley? Cricket Fans!’ captured the hearts of readers and judges alike.
Courageous Reporting on Global Events
Ankita Mukhopaydyay’s courageous reporting earned her Third Place in Digital Media, Columns-News/Political. Her insightful coverage of King Charles’s coronation, the Kartarpur Sahib pilgrimage, and the Ram Temple inauguration sparked meaningful conversations and challenged societal norms. The judges commended her for her fearless approach to storytelling that both enlightens and questions the status quo.
