Over 200 individuals, including convicted sex offenders and drug traffickers, found themselves apprehended in a targeted operation spearheaded by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and various law enforcement agencies in the New York City area. This recent crackdown, part of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, aimed to tackle “egregious” criminal offenders within and around the city.
Who Were the Targets of the Operation?
Of the 206 arrests made between April 6 and April 12, ICE disclosed that more than half of the detainees had substantial criminal records or were currently facing legal charges related to severe crimes such as murder, assault, arson, rape, drug offenses, and possession of illegal firearms. Notably, one individual is a foreign fugitive wanted for crimes in their home country, while another has a homicide conviction in the Philippines.
A significant portion of the apprehended individuals is suspected to have ties with transnational criminal organizations that are active in the New York region, including infamous groups like MS-13, Tren de Aragua, Sureños, and 18th Street gangs. The collaborative effort of ICE and its partners aimed to mitigate the influence and operations of such criminal entities within the city.

Mayor Eric Adams expressed his support for the multi-agency enforcement operation, emphasizing the importance of cooperation across all levels of law enforcement.
