Waking up in the middle of the mountains and enjoying your first coffee wrapped up in a woolen blanket with a view of the crystal-clear mountain lake – that is the epitome of freedom for many people. Camping can be a guarantee of adventure and closeness to nature, even in the cold half of the year. The most important thing is the right preparation and healthy expectations. Because: In autumn and winter there is no guarantee of good weather, even in southern Europe. Snow, rain and wind are part of the overall package of the camping holiday.

And yet there are regions in Europe that are particularly suitable for a camping trip in autumn and winter. If you’re looking forward to a walk in the colorful forest, want to jump into the leaves and end the evening with a cup of tea in front of the campfire, you’re in good hands at many German campsites in autumn, according to the Berlin camping portal “camping.info”.

The experts particularly recommend the following regions:

North Sea and Baltic Sea: Many campsites offer an extensive leisure program and wellness offers, which promise a wonderful holiday, especially for families.

Weserbergland-Harz mountain region: The diverse hiking trails attract many nature fans all year round. In autumn you can explore the colorful deciduous forests with a little less hustle and bustle.

Eifel mountain region: No matter whether historic villages or picturesque forests – there are many places to discover in the Eifel. And if you want to relax, you can do so in one of the numerous health resorts in the region – with a camper, of course.

Lake Constance: If you jump into the lake in summer, you can explore the many hiking trails on the shore in autumn, go on a bike ride or enjoy the Lake Constance thermal baths.

South Tyrol: If you don’t like it too cold in autumn, you can take a camper to South Tyrol. Even in November it is often almost 20 degrees Celsius. Good conditions for extensive hiking tours or a leisurely day at the campsite.

If you’re planning a camping trip to the winter wonderland, you’re in good hands wherever the snow falls reliably and the campsites are prepared for winter weather. This is particularly the case in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. There is a large selection of beautiful camping spots there. The camping booking portal has therefore revealed to us the five most popular places for winter camping:

Germany

Vital CAMP Bayerbach, Bavaria Camping and holiday park Wulfener Hals, Schleswig-Holstein Spa

Austria

Camping of course Hell, Tyrol Camping Grubhof, Salzburg Tirol-Camp-Fieberbrunn, Tyrol Camping Brunner am See, Carinthia Europarcs Hermagor, Carinthia

No matter which region campers end up in this fall and winter, they can look forward to plenty of nature and adventure if they follow a few basic rules for camping in the cold half of the year. This includes the right equipment for the vehicle, an auxiliary heater and a winter-proof parking space. Some campsites also offer indoor cooking areas and wellness areas, which make camping a little more comfortable.
