So, there was this crazy incident at Florida State University the other day. Like, I can’t even imagine what it must have been like for those students there. A junior at FSU, McKenzie Heeter, was just minding her own business, leaving the student union with her food, when all of a sudden this guy shows up in an orange Hummer with a rifle. He starts shooting in her direction, and she’s just like, “Whoa, what is happening right now?” Luckily, he missed her, but then he pulls out a pistol and shoots the lady in front of him. Like, what the heck, right?
McKenzie said she heard about 15 shots fired in just 20 to 30 seconds. Can you even imagine the terror she must have felt in that moment? She called the police right away to report the shooting. The shooter seemed like just a normal college dude, wearing an orange T-shirt and khaki shorts. But, like, why would he do something so awful? It’s just mind-boggling.
Honestly, McKenzie thought at first that he was using a BB gun, but when she heard the shots, she knew it was real. That’s when she booked it out of there, warning anyone she could to stay away from campus. She ran back to her apartment as fast as her legs could carry her. I mean, can you blame her? I’d be running like my life depended on it too.
The campus went on lockdown, with students told to take cover and lock their doors. It’s just a scary situation all around. And the fact that the shooter was a student at FSU just adds another layer of shock to the whole thing. Like, what could have possibly driven him to do something so senseless? We may never really know.
All I can say is, my heart goes out to everyone affected by this tragedy. It’s just a reminder that we never know what’s going on in someone else’s head. Stay safe out there, folks.
