Sumiti Mehta Makes History in Sacramento
In a groundbreaking moment for the Sacramento community, Sumiti Mehta, a dedicated parent and author, was elected as a Trustee on the Natomas Unified School District Board on December 13, 2024. This historic win marked a significant milestone as Mehta became the first South Asian woman to secure this position and the first Indian-American woman to be elected in the City of Sacramento.
The Path to Success
State Senator Angelique Ashby had the honor of administering the oath of office to Mehta, a first-generation immigrant who hails from India. After moving to Natomas 14 years ago, Mehta actively engaged with the Natomas school district, dedicating countless hours to various committees since 2009.
