A former train station building in Hagenow (Ludwigslust-Parchim district) burned on Wednesday night. A family of four was evacuated from the building, which was now used as a residential building, a police spokesman said. The four residents were taken to hospital as a precaution because of suspected smoke poisoning.

According to initial findings, furniture that was parked under a canopy caught fire. The flames then spread to the house facade. Almost 50 volunteer firefighters were deployed to fight the fire. The criminal police are now investigating the cause of the fire. There was material damage of around 50,000 euros.
