family-of-deported-us-citizen-toddler-drops-lawsuit-against-trump-admin

The family was like, “We’ll think about all the options available to us, ya know?” The family of the 2-year-old U.S. citizen who got deported with her mom to Honduras last month decided to drop their lawsuit against the Trump administration, according to one of the family’s lawyers who spoke to ABC News.

Gracie Willis, the attorney representing the family, said, “After all the crazy stuff the families have been through, they’re gonna take a breather to chat about what to do next, keep their kids safe, and figure out the best way forward to deal with all the bad stuff that happened.”

They’re just gonna take a step back, ya know, and think about all the options they have,” she added.

Last month, a judge was like, “I have a strong feeling that the Trump administration deported a 2-year-old U.S. citizen to Honduras without really thinking about it.”

The U.S. citizen, known as “V.M.L” in the court documents, was first held with her mom and sister during a regular immigration check-in in New Orleans last month. The dad of the 2-year-old called the immigration folks to tell them she’s a U.S. citizen and can’t be deported, but she still got sent to Honduras with her mom and sister before the court could do anything about it.

The Department of Justice lawyers said it was better for the kid to stay with her mom and she wasn’t in any danger ’cause she’s a U.S. citizen.

The ACLU was like, “Nah, we’re not gonna sue anymore ’cause the DHS didn’t deport an American child,” according to Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.

She said, “The mom, who wasn’t here legally, decided to take her 2-year-old with her to Honduras when she got sent back. The story that DHS is kicking out American kids is just wrong and kinda dumb.”

Not really sure why this matters, but there you have it. The family’s dropping the lawsuit and the DHS says they didn’t do anything wrong. Just another day in the crazy world of immigration, folks.
