A two-year-old who was reported missing was found in a forest in Oberellenbach, Hesse, after almost seven hours of searching and darkness fell.
Police and rescue workers had been looking for the boy since Sunday afternoon, the police said. According to his father, the child escaped during a walk in the forest in Oberellenbach. “The man looked around for a moment and when he looked back at his son, he had disappeared,” said a police spokesman in Fulda.
It wasn’t until around 11:30 p.m. that the boy’s family could breathe a sigh of relief: rescue workers had discovered him near a country road between Sterkelshausen and the Beenhausen junction (Hersfeld-Rotenburg district). After a medical examination, the boy was handed over to his parents, the police said. He was slightly hypothermic. No further details about his condition were released.
Around 100 rescue workers from the fire department alone were involved in the search. There were also around 120 police and aid organizations, including an air force and several dog squads. According to the police, numerous citizens were also looking for the boy.
