I grew up in a small village in Hesse. There was no cable connection there until a few years ago. As in many sparsely populated regions, it was too expensive for the providers to lay a cable network, and the profit would have been far too low for them.
My parents, like many in the area, had a satellite dish installed at some point and watched TV from then on. Digitization is a snail in Germany, but now it’s arriving in the village. Recently the offer “Fibre-optic connection for you too!” in her mailbox.
