Firefighters and other first responders had their hands full when a dump truck crashed into a house in Woodbury Heights, New Jersey. The incident took place on Tuesday, May 20, around 1:30 p.m. as a man was behind the wheel of the truck along the 600 block of Stratford Avenue. Unfortunately, he lost control of the vehicle, hitting a utility pole before smashing into the home. NBC10 Philadelphia managed to get their hands on an exclusive dashcam video capturing the chaos of the crash.
The dramatic footage obtained by NBC10 showed the moment the dump truck plowed through the house in Woodbury Heights. Thankfully, the driver of the truck was rescued, and a person inside the home was also taken to the hospital in stable condition. The driver, who was trapped inside the vehicle for hours, was eventually freed by first responders. Despite the intense situation, officials mentioned that the driver was conscious and received medical attention at the scene.
Significant damage was evident as the rear hopper of the truck could be seen protruding from a hole in the exterior wall of the home. The impact of the crash caused all the walls of the residence to buckle under the weight of the truck. As a precautionary measure, one nearby home was evacuated due to safety concerns. An ongoing investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the incident. Woodbury-Glassboro Road remains closed between Elm Avenue and Chestnut Avenue, with several side roads in the surrounding area also shut down.
