A Soggy Start to May

So, May has been a real bummer in terms of the weather. We can’t seem to catch a break from the rain, with showers hitting us every two to three days. And unfortunately, this trend doesn’t seem to be letting up anytime soon.

What’s Happening This Week

We kicked off this week with some dry skies, but guess what? Showers are making a comeback on Wednesday. Yup, get ready for a couple of chilly, soggy, and just overall miserable days right before Memorial Day weekend. Sounds like a blast, doesn’t it?

Wednesday Weather Forecast

Wednesday starts off dry, but don’t get too comfortable. Light showers are going to start creeping into Central and South Jersey during your morning commute. Better grab that umbrella, folks. The rain will start picking up by mid-morning and pretty much soak us for the rest of the day. So, expect a wet and wild evening commute.

Heavy Rain Incoming

The heaviest rain is expected to hit us overnight on Wednesday into early Thursday morning. By the time you’re hitting the road in the morning, the heavy rain should be over on Long Island, but we’ll still be stuck dealing with showers. Don’t forget your raincoat and umbrella, unless you enjoy being soaking wet all day.

Chilly Winds and Temperatures

As if the rain isn’t bad enough, we’ll also be dealing with gusty winds coming in from the northeast on Thursday. Sustained winds will be around 10 to 20 miles per hour, with gusts up to 30 miles per hour. These chilly winds will definitely make it feel like March instead of May. So, make sure to bundle up and stay warm.

Temperature Rollercoaster

Our typical high temperatures for this time of year are around 72 degrees. But on both Wednesday and Thursday, we’ll be lucky if we hit the mid to low 50s. That’s a solid 15 to 20 degrees cooler than what we’re used to. So, go ahead and dig out those hoodies and sweaters because it’s going to feel more like winter than late spring.

Looking Ahead to the Weekend

As we head into Friday, the weather should start to improve slightly. We might see some lingering showers, but overall, things will be drier. Temperatures will begin to climb back up, but it won’t be a quick warm-up. We’ll be lucky to reach the 60s, which is still way below what we’d like for this time of year.

Memorial Day Weekend Forecast

Unfortunately, the below-average temperatures are going to stick around for the Memorial Day weekend. Saturday and Sunday will keep us in the 60s, with Monday finally bringing us back to the 70s. While Monday will be the nicest day of the weekend, it’s still not quite beach weather.

A Not-So-Summery Start

So, our unofficial start to summer is looking more like an extended spring. But hey, if you can overlook the lack of warm weather, it’s still a great weekend to spend some time outdoors. We’ve had our fair share of wet Memorial Day weekends in the past, so let’s count our blessings if we manage to dodge any rogue showers this time around. Just gotta get through the gloomy midweek rain first.
