Vivek Mohan, a first-generation immigrant who has been living in Pleasanton for 12 years, is running for City Council District 4. Mohan holds a Bachelor of Arts from India, a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Cal State University – East Bay, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. With a background in founding small businesses and holding senior executive roles in global organizations, Mohan is also actively involved in the local community, having served on Pleasanton’s Planning and Housing Commissions and advising a non-profit organization.
In a recent interview, Mohan expressed his belief that citizens should not be treated as “ATM machines” for the city or state to withdraw money to cover their own inefficiencies. He emphasized the importance of spending wisely and efficiently to address the city’s current challenges and future needs.
Mohan outlined his top priorities if elected, focusing on both short-term and mid-to-long-term goals. In the short term, he aims to address the budget shortfall by cutting unnecessary expenses rather than raising taxes. He also prioritizes providing affordable, PFAS-free water, implementing business-friendly policies at City Hall, and improving communication with the community.
For the mid-to-long term, Mohan plans to develop a strategic plan to prevent recurring issues, promote local businesses, and position Pleasanton as a hub for green tech and healthcare startups. He emphasized the importance of proactive and transparent governance to ensure the city’s growth and sustainability.
Mohan urged voters to research candidates’ positions and choose wisely to bring about the desired changes in the city. He believes that change can only occur if the community votes for candidates who prioritize effective governance and fiscal responsibility.
As Pleasanton faces various challenges such as budget deficits, water quality issues, and economic development, Mohan’s candidacy offers a vision for a more sustainable and prosperous future for the city. With his background in business and community involvement, Mohan presents a unique perspective on how to address the city’s pressing issues and ensure its long-term success.
