deported-moms-attorneys-challenge-trump-officials-claims

So, like, there’s this one mom who was gonna get kicked out of the country, and she only got, like, two minutes on the phone with her husband to figure out what was gonna happen to her 2-year-old son who’s an American citizen. Another mom wasn’t allowed to talk to her lawyers or family before she got deported, even though ICE knew one of her kids had, like, Stage 4 cancer. Attorneys for these moms and their kids who got sent to Honduras are totally going off on Trump officials, saying that deporting three American citizen kids over the weekend, including a 4-year-old boy who got sent off without his cancer meds, is, like, totally illegal. They’re saying that the families didn’t choose for the kids to go with their moms.

So, on Monday, this border “czar” dude from the Trump administration, Tom Homan, said that the three American citizen kids, all under 10, got put on deportation flights ’cause their moms asked for it. But then, Secretary of State Marco Rubio was like, “Nah, they didn’t get deported, they just went with their moms.” He also said that if someone in the U.S. wants to take care of them, they can come back. But the lawyers are saying that the families didn’t really have a chance to figure out what to do with the kids. They’re saying ICE rushed everything and didn’t give them time to make plans.

According to Sirine Shebaya, who’s, like, the big boss of the National Immigration Project, these deportations are happening super fast. She’s saying that there needs to be an investigation and, like, some accountability ’cause it’s pretty clear what’s going on. ICE is saying that they’re all good with how they do things and that the parents chose to take their kids with them. They’re all about protecting children and stuff, or at least that’s what Tricia McLaughlin, the Assistant Homeland Security Secretary, says.

Now, this lawyer, Mich P. González, who’s representing the mom who got deported with her 2-year-old, is saying that she was told to bring her kids to an immigration check-in earlier than planned. Another attorney, Gracie Willis, who’s with the National Immigration Project, said on MSNBC that ICE wouldn’t let anyone know where the family was or even let them contact them. The child’s dad barely got to talk to the mom about what to do before an ICE officer cut the call when he tried to give her a lawyer’s number.

Apparently, ICE has this one-page note that they say the mom wrote, giving consent for her 2-year-old to get deported. But González is saying that ICE got it all wrong, that she was forced to write that note. He’s like, “She didn’t sign anything, she didn’t consent, she was forced to do it.”

The attorneys for the mom with the sick kid are saying that they all got flown to Honduras without being able to talk to family or lawyers. The mom didn’t want to take her kids with her, especially ’cause the 4-year-old was getting cancer treatment in the U.S. and got sent off without his meds.

There are other cases where moms getting deported could put their American citizen kids in danger. In Florida, there’s this lady, America Perez Ramirez, who got a notice from DHS to check in at an ICE office and bring tickets for a flight to Mexico for her and her 11-year-old American daughter. The girl has a rare genetic disorder and needs to be in the U.S. for treatment. But Perez Ramirez was being forced to leave ’cause of some labor trafficking case.

So, yeah, it’s a total mess out there. Families getting separated, kids getting sent off without meds, and all that. Not really sure why this matters, but it’s a pretty big deal, I guess. Maybe it’s just me, but it feels like something needs to change, you know?
