Of course, CT scans can often save lives. “CT” stands for “computed tomography”: A tube-shaped device sends radioactive radiation into the body. Radiologists can use it to detect fractures, bleeding or cancer in minutes. If a child has fallen off the trampoline, they can quickly check whether they have suffered life-threatening internal injuries. However, the CT radiation is a hundred to a thousand times stronger than that of a conventional X-ray.
