On the night of July 14, 2014, Germany became world champions for the fourth time, in the game against Argentina, 1-0 in the 113th minute. On the same night, Alexander Radke* (all names changed with *) killed a man who was a stranger to him, repeatedly stabbed a young woman who was also a stranger to him, and to this day no one knows why.
Beer flowed freely everywhere in Germany and the victory was celebrated everywhere. In Bad Reichenhall, a small Alpine town in Bavaria, black, red and gold colors also shone from the cheeks of football fans. The game was shown on the big screen in the Tucha Bar, a pub in the middle of town. The disco ball spun above the celebrating crowd. Among the fans were some Bundeswehr soldiers, mountain troops, who were stationed in the Hochstaufen barracks. One of them was Alexander Radke. The man who would become a murderer that night. His lawyer would later say: “This was a special case. Because there was simply no motive.”
