After the explosion in a residential and commercial building in the center of Eschweiler near Aachen, the police arrested a second suspect.

The man in his mid-fifties is said to be the father of the 21-year-old suspect who was arrested on Friday, as the dpa learned from security circles. The motive is said to have been insurance fraud.

The two men are said to have previously attracted attention. Accelerator is said to have been distributed in the house. It is still unclear whether only an arson or an explosion was planned.

The detonation and subsequent fire in the four-story residential and commercial building caused severe devastation on Thursday. According to the public prosecutor’s office, two of the 15 injured were still in mortal danger on Monday.

The 21-year-old is in custody. He is accused of attempted murder in conjunction with dangerous bodily harm in 15 cases and particularly serious arson.
