court-rules-against-trumps-defunding-of-sanctuary-cities

A local court in California recently ruled against the Trump administration’s efforts to defund ‘sanctuary’ cities. The judge said that parts of Trump’s executive orders were not cool, man. The judge, William Orrick, was like, “Yo, Trump, you can’t mess with federal funds for cities not cooperating with immigration stuff.”

So, Trump wanted to cut off money from these ‘sanctuary’ cities, but the judge was like, “Nah, can’t do that.” Orrick said that the government can’t freeze or withhold federal funds from these places. They gotta let the money flow, you know what I mean?

Trump tried to get the Attorney General and Homeland Security Secretary to stop sending money to these cities. But the judge was like, “Hold up, Trump, you can’t do that.” The judge said that the government has to make sure they’re not supporting these ‘sanctuary’ policies.

The Justice Department was like, “Wait a minute, it’s too early for this ruling.” But Orrick was like, “Nah, the fear of enforcement is real.” He mentioned other lawsuits against cities like Chicago and New York. San Francisco was successful in challenging Trump’s order in 2017, and the appeals court agreed, saying Trump was overstepping.

‘Sanctuary’ cities don’t fully cooperate with ICE, the immigration people. They want to protect immigrants and focus on local crime instead. Leaders in these cities think it makes their communities safer. Other cities like Seattle, Portland, and Minneapolis are also part of this legal battle.
