Film music composer Hans Zimmer started his 2023 European tour in Oberhausen on Sunday with newly arranged sounds of his world hits. The two-time Oscar winner played in front of 10,000 concert-goers. The Hollywood star’s live band and orchestra musicians presented classics from films such as “Gladiator”, “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Interstellar”. Zimmer is known for his electronic music sound with traditional orchestral arrangements.
The 65-year-old, who was born in Frankfurt am Main, became famous for the music for the cartoon “The Lion King” (1994), for which he won his first Oscar. Zimmer received his second Academy Award in 2022 for the film music for the blockbuster “Dune”. The German was first nominated for an Oscar in 1988 for the music to “Rain Man”. Milestones were the comedy “It doesn’t get better” (1997) and the war epic “The Narrow Ridge” (1998).
Zimmer is considered a Hollywood star whose face only very few people know. In Oberhausen, the instrumentalist presented himself in the center of the stage on his keyboards. Accompanied by a pompous light show, he conducted his ensemble.
In Germany, Zimmer also plays in Frankfurt/Main (April 27), Stuttgart (April 29), Hanover (May 20), Munich (May 24), Berlin (May 26/27), Hamburg (May 28) and Cologne (June 9). .). The European tour takes him to 15 countries, including Portugal, Spain and Slovakia for the first time.
