Extinction Rebellion has decided to “temporarily say goodbye to disrupting public space as its primary tactic.” Instead, more pressure should be put on politicians to end the use of fossil fuels. A large demo with 100,000 participants is planned for April 21 in front of Parliament in London.
Extinction Rebellion was founded in 2018. With their actions, the members of the group, who glued themselves to streets or planes and blocked London’s Tower Bridge in August, angered the conservative government and parts of the population against them. Numerous activists were arrested during various protest actions.
Meanwhile, several even more radical activist groups such as Just Stop Oil and Insulate Britain were formed, which, for example, paralyzed the ring road around London and threw soup at Vincent van Gogh’s masterpiece “Sunflowers”.
