Kensington Palace recently provided an update on the Princess of Wales’s work status, once again reiterating that she is not expected to come back to work until her medical team advises her to do so.
“We have been really clear that **[Kate]** needs the space and the privacy to recover right now,” a palace spokesperson told Us Weekly. “She will return to work when she has had the green light from doctors.”
A source for the outlet alleged that Kate “may never come back in the role that people saw her in before,” but a royal insider tells Harper’s Bazaar that such a claim is “unfair and untrue.”
“There is no information about Kate’s ‘return’ because the focus at this moment in time is 100% on her health—to suggest she won’t return to her role is unfair and untrue,” the source explains. “Conversations of that nature are just not being had. When the time is right, she will resume her work.”

The palace’s statement is not dissimilar from other official statements released since Kate announced her cancer diagnosis in a personal video on March 22. A royal insider shared similar sentiments to Bazaar at the time: “The princess will return to official duties when she is cleared to do so by her medical team.” They added, “She is in good spirits and is focused on making a full recovery.”
Last week, the palace confirmed that Kate would miss a June 8 rehearsal for Trooping the Colour, the annual ceremonial event that celebrates the British monarch’s birthday. Her typical role as the inspecting officer at the Colonel’s Review will instead go to Lieutenant General James Bucknall, KCB, CBE, according to People.
Kate last made a public appearance on December 25, when she joined the royal family for the traditional walk to Christmas morning church service at Sandringham. Though she has been missing in action from an official royal capacity, the princess has reportedly been spotted out and about near her Windsor residence in the months since.
