More than five months after the spectacular theft of a Celtic pot of gold from a museum in Upper Bavaria, the regular exhibition is reopening there. After extensive repair work, the permanent exhibition of the Celtic Roman Museum in Manching can be seen again from May 2nd, the museum and the Archaeological State Collection announced today.

The showcases, which were broken into during the burglary at the end of November 2022, remained closed to visitors for the time being. How to proceed with this area is “the subject of considerations,” it said.

On the night of November 22, previously unknown perpetrators broke into the Manching Museum and stole a treasure containing 483 Celtic gold coins and three other coins. The pure material value of the 3.7-kilo treasure is estimated at around a quarter of a million euros, but the commercial value of the historical coins is in the millions. The Bavarian State Criminal Police Office is investigating with a special commission called “Oppidum”.
