A murder on the street causes horror in the Schleswig-Holstein heath. According to the police, a 37-year-old woman from Chemnitz was walking with her 13-year-old son on the sidewalk through a residential area on Monday afternoon around 2:20 p.m. when a car stopped next to her, the passenger got out and shot the woman in front of the child.

“The shooter then drove to the police and turned himself in,” said the Itzehoe police department in a statement. The 54-year-old was arrested. It is said to be the victim’s husband and the boy’s father. According to the police, the Chemnitz couple recently lived separately, so the mother and son have recently been in Heide.

According to media reports, residents had dialed the emergency number. The 37-year-old died of her serious injuries shortly after the attack in the Heide West Coast Clinic. The 13-year-old was also hospitalized. “Of course he was in shock,” said a police spokeswoman for the star. The youth welfare office is now taking care of him.

The driver of the car, known to date to be an acquaintance of the shooter, was also arrested by the police shortly after the crime. The investigation into his role in the case is ongoing.

The mayor of the city on Schleswig-Holstein’s west coast with its around 20,000 inhabitants expressed his dismay after the bloody deed. “I am shocked and deeply shaken. All of our sympathy goes to the victim’s family,” wrote the SPD politician on Facebook.

The police initially did not want to provide any further information about the crime, including its background – “for reasons of investigation tactics”, as it was said. The 54-year-old who confessed should appear before the magistrate on Tuesday, the police spokeswoman said.
