The Niners Chemnitz basketball players suffered a setback in the fight for the playoffs in the Bundesliga. The Saxons lost their guest game at the penultimate Basketball Löwen Braunschweig on Sunday with 71:78 (36:39) and fell back from fifth to sixth place in the table. Braydon Hobbs (20), David Kramer (18) and Dustin Sleva (10) played the biggest part in Lower Saxony’s third success in a row. Wes Clark (16), Nelson Weidemann (15), Kevin Yebo (11), Jonas Richter and Aher Uguak (10 each) scored the most points for Chemnitz.
The Niners were unable to compensate for the short-term absence of top performer Marko Filipovity due to illness over the entire season. For half an hour the meeting was completely open. Then, at the beginning of the last quarter, Braunschweig pulled away with an 11:2 run from 57:57 (30th) to 68:59 (35th). The guests could not make up for this deficit because of their poor hit rate from beyond the three-point line. Of 32 throws, only six found their way into the Braunschweig basket. Especially the usually safe shooters Mindaugas Susinskas (0 out of 6) and Arnas Velicka (1 out of 8) had a pitch-black day.
