The Niners Chemnitz basketball players celebrated their 25th win of the season in the Bundesliga on Wednesday against the Basketball Löwen Braunschweig. Coach Rodrigo Pastore’s protégés retained the upper hand against the Basketball Lions Braunschweig with 82:68 (50:37) and secured home advantage for the playoff quarter-finals. The Saxons can no longer be pushed out of one of the top four places in the table. Ousman Krubally (18 points), DeAndre Lansdowne (14), Jeff Garrett (13) and Wesley van Beck (10) contributed the most to the success. Barra Njie (15), Nicholas Tischer (14), Jilson Bango (12) and Brandon Tischler (11) scored the most points for the Brauschweigers.
The home team had some initial difficulties in the first few minutes. However, the Saxons converted the 16:20 deficit after nine minutes to 27:20 within 180 seconds with an 11:0 run and extended the lead to 42:24 by the 16th minute. The Chemnitz team used this cushion until the final whistle. Braunschweig only came threateningly close again in the 36th minute at 71:66. But the Niners didn’t allow a turnaround. The Saxons had a much better hit rate (53 percent compared to 39 percent for Lower Saxony) from the field and also dominated under the boards (43:29 rebounds).
