After an attack with a hand grenade in Berlin, one of the three victims is still in mortal danger. “We hope the man will survive,” a police spokesman said today. The 61-year-old and two women aged 42 and 48 were attacked late Friday evening.

Another 61-year-old man is suspected of having detonated a hand grenade in front of the entrance to an apartment building. According to the police, he then attacked the younger of the two women and the man with a knife and inflicted further injuries on them.

The possible background to the attempted homicide is a previous relationship between the 42-year-old and the suspect, the police spokesman said today. After the crime, the suspected attacker fled to a nearby allotment garden, where he was arrested. The three injured were taken to hospitals. A homicide detective is investigating. According to the police, the alleged attacker is a Serb.
