The accident container was opened more than a week after the chemical accident in the port of Mannheim. Specialists in blue and white protective suits worked on the container on Wednesday.
The first of almost 200 barrels was salvaged with a special crane late Wednesday afternoon. A complete, ready-to-use fire engine from the fire brigade was also on site, as well as the police, rescue services and representatives from environmental monitoring. Apart from a small section near the container location, there were no road closures. Everything is going according to plan, it was said at the start of the campaign.
Toxic fumes rose from the container with the bleach hydrosulfite destined for Turkey on Tuesday last week. 17 people were slightly injured.
