The victims of the serious car accident in northern Hesse are a family from the greater Hanover area. As the public prosecutor and the police reported on Friday, the adult occupants of the vehicle are the parents of the small child who died at the scene of the accident. The child was one year and nine months old. The parents are 32 and 34 years old, they were seriously injured in the accident on Thursday afternoon.

“The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing,” reported the public prosecutor’s office in Marburg and the police in the Schwalm-Eder district in a joint statement. According to the current status of the investigation, it can be assumed that the 32-year-old mother was behind the wheel. An expert should help in the search for the cause of the accident. The police are also looking for witnesses. “In particular, the occupants of the car that was directly in front of the VW Passat involved in the accident are being sought,” officials said.

The car got on the federal highway 3 between Gilserberg and Lischeid on the opposite lane and collided head-on with an oncoming trailer. The three family members suffered serious injuries. The child died at the scene of the accident and the parents were taken to hospitals. The 46-year-old truck driver was not injured.
