The Court of Instruction 4 of Lérida has opened a case for the discovery of a fetus in an advanced stage of gestation in a home in the Lleida neighborhood of La Bordeta, as reported on Monday by the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC).

According to the newspaper ‘Segre’, a preliminary report indicates that the fetus was born alive and died shortly after due to drowning, although the autopsy is awaited.

The Mossos d’Esquadra opened proceedings on Wednesday to clarify the death of the fetus that initially began to be investigated as a medical matter as it was allegedly an abortion of a 22-year-old girl who claimed she was unaware she was pregnant.

On Wednesday, the mother of this young woman’s partner, who lives with both of them, upon returning home after finishing her workday, found a bag in the bathroom containing a fetus with the placenta and umbilical cord and alerted the emergency services.

The woman who found the fetus said that her son had told her hours before that her partner had been transferred to the Arnau de Vilanova Hospital in Lleida because he had had a hemorrhage. The agents questioned the young woman’s partner and other relatives, who stated that they were unaware that the girl was pregnant.
