German tennis professional Daniel Altmaier has reached the quarterfinals of the ATP tournament in Auckland.

The 25-year-old from Kempen surprisingly won 7:6 (11:9), 7:5 against fourth-seeded Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime. A few days before the start of the Australian Open, the Davis Cup player was in strong form and will now face Frenchman Arthur Fils in the quarterfinals. The tournament in New Zealand, like the other tennis events this week, serves as preparation for the Australian Open, which starts on Sunday.

Laura Siegemund also achieved her next victory a few days after her success in the United Cup with the German team around Alexander Zverev and Angelique Kerber. The 35-year-old defeated Romanian Ana Bogdan 6:4, 7:5 at the WTA tournament in Adelaide, Australia, and reached the quarterfinals.

Tatjana Maria, on the other hand, suffered a clear defeat. The 36-year-old had no chance in the 0:6, 1:6 defeat against Viktoriya Tomowa from Bulgaria at the tournament in Hobart (Australia) and was eliminated in the round of 16.
