Because of the train drivers’ strike at Deutsche Bahn and other companies, there will also be severe disruptions to nationwide rail traffic on Friday. The emergency timetable was also running stable on the third day of the strike, said a railway spokeswoman. Preparations are underway for the restart after the end of the strike. The strike is scheduled to last until Friday at 6 p.m. and affects nationwide long-distance, regional and freight transport. The Transdev company is also on strike.
According to Deutsche Bahn, the emergency timetable will apply beyond the end of the strike on Friday evening. The company is preparing to run its usual offerings when operations begin on Saturday morning. Even then, individual deviations could occur.
It is the third and longest strike to date by the GDL train drivers’ union in the ongoing collective bargaining dispute. The union began the industrial action in passenger transport on Wednesday morning. There has been a strike in freight transport since Tuesday evening. The union wants to use the industrial action to increase the pressure on the railway in order to achieve a reduction in working hours for shift workers with full pay. The railway rejects this. The GDL is also demanding wage increases.
