Laura Nolte won the two-man bobsleigh World Cup in St. Moritz with pusher Neele Schuten. After two runs, the duo relegated their teammates Lisa Buckwitz and Lauryn Siebert to second place with a lead of 0.08 seconds.
Kim Kalicki from Wiesbaden, who won the world championship title last year on the natural ice rink in the Swiss Engadine, was injured after setting the fastest time in the first round with Leonie Fiebig. “Kim shot himself something in the flexor, let’s see where we go. MRI tomorrow first. The focus is on the World Cup, let’s see how we manage that,” said Fiebig, who finished seventh with Kalicki. The Swiss Melanie Hasler came third.
Nolte, who competes for BSC Winterberg and was intercepted by Buckwitz (BCR Thuringia) in the monobob the day before, extended her lead in the overall World Cup with her second win of the season. “We are overjoyed because the week was an emotional ups and downs after the World Cup last year,” said the two-man bobsleigh Olympic champion in Beijing, who fell on this track during the title fights almost a year ago.
Buckwitz, who surprisingly became Olympic champion in Pyeongchang in 2018 as Mariama Jamanka’s pusher, improved to second place in the overall World Cup ahead of Kalicki. “We started well, but I drove badly in the second run, so I threw it away,” said Buckwitz.
