The earth in the southwest of Iceland has torn open twice within four weeks. Lava is currently pouring out of cracks several hundred meters long and covering the port town of Grindavik with destructive, scorching rock. Last December, Etna in Sicily erupted again and there has been a lot of rumbling under the Phlegraean Fields (a supervolcano!) in the Bay of Naples for months. Are these events still a coincidence or is there already rapid climate change behind them?
