After the new election of the party leadership, the FDP will start deliberating on the application at its federal party conference today. The speech of Secretary General Bijan Djir-Saai is also expected. He was confirmed in office last night with a result of 76 percent.
There are hardly any big surprises to be expected during the application consultations. The leading motion of the FDP federal board is headed with “Yes to more prosperity – let’s use the energy of crisis management for an ambitious innovation and growth program”. It contains many well-known demands and positions of the Free Democrats.
It’s about “big changes”
It is required to make Germany the world market leader for innovation and technological progress again, to create growth-friendly framework conditions and to fill the promise of advancement for all people with new life. Solid finances are needed, more digitization and less bureaucracy, a modern transport and energy infrastructure, a fair opportunity for wealth accumulation, above all through shares, and the best educational opportunities for all children.
One amendment calls for “major changes” to the Building Energy Act, which the cabinet has just passed – with the approval of the FDP ministers. The criticism is that the regulations interfere too much with people’s self-determined lives. There should be “no expropriation of owners and tenants through the back door” due to climate protection regulations.
Lindner remains chairman
At the start, the delegates yesterday confirmed the party chairman Christian Lindner for another two years in office. He got 88 percent of the delegate votes – after 93 percent two years ago. The previous deputy chairmen Wolfgang Kubicki (72 percent) and Johannes Vogel (71 percent) were also confirmed. Bettina Stark-Watzinger was elected as the new Vice Chair. With 86 percent, she achieved the best result of the Lindner deputies.
