Schalke’s brilliant final spurt turned the stadium into a madhouse. Accompanied by the chants of their fans, the pros of coach Thomas Reis celebrated the 2-1 (0-1) win over Werder Bremen, which they fought with heart, will and luck, almost as enthusiastically as an already secured class stay.
“Of course, such victories are extremely good,” said offensive player Marius Bülter on Sky: “If you score the decisive goal in the last minute, it feels very good.” Coach Reis was visibly proud: “We showed today that we are there and are still fighting to stay up.” After the effort, which was rewarded with three immensely important points, Schalke, as penultimate, is still in a direct relegation zone, but is only one point behind in contact with the relegation zone.

In front of 61,981 spectators in the sold-out Veltins Arena, substitute goal scorers Sepp van den Berg (81st) and Dominick Drexler (90th 2) turned a game on Saturday that almost ended after Bremen took the lead by Marvin Ducksch (18th). seemed lost.
