Sadio Mané and FC Bayern – that looks like a big misunderstanding after a year. The Senegalese came to Munich last summer as a celebrated world star from Liverpool FC, according to media reports for a transfer fee of at least 32 million euros.
The 31-year-old was never able to meet the high expectations. He didn’t fit into the system, was injured for a long time – and then there was the matter of the cabin brawl. Mané had slapped his team-mate Leroy Sané in the face after the Champions League defeat by Manchester City. In a conversation with the Senegalese television station 2sTV, he commented on the incident for the first time. “Something like that can happen. It happened. We were able to solve this small problem,” said Mané.
At that time he had been suspended by the club for a game and had to pay a large fine. The offensive player went on to reiterate that the matter between him and his team-mate is settled: “Sometimes it’s good to solve problems, but maybe not in this way. It’s behind us now. We’ll try to fight for it together, that the club can achieve its goals next season.”
However, it is by no means certain that Sadio Mané will actually play at Bayern Munich next season. After the disappointing last season, the record champions’ squad is under scrutiny. This includes Mané, who has recently been rumored to be returning to England and moving to Real Madrid or even Saudi Arabia.
However, the Senegalese made it clear that he would like to stay in Munich: “If everything goes well, I will return to Bayern. I love a challenge and Bayern is a big challenge. It’s up to me to do everything I can to master this challenge. ” The past season was “complicated”, admitted Mané. In a total of 38 appearances in competitive games, he had only scored twelve goals. He also missed the World Cup in Qatar due to an injury.
