According to the Israeli ambassador there, an attack on his country’s representation was foiled in Stockholm. There was an attempted attack against the Israeli embassy and its employees, said Ambassador Ziv Nevo Kulman on Wednesday on the online service X, formerly Twitter. The Swedish police spoke of a “dangerous object” that had been found on the embassy premises.

A defusing squad came to the conclusion that it was a “sharp” object and “destroyed” it, Daniel Wikdahl of the Stockholm police told the AFP news agency. The embassy informed the police about the discovery of the item in the early afternoon. An investigation has been initiated, said Wikdahl. He did not provide any further details about the item.

The Swedish newspapers “Expressen” and “Aftonbladet” reported that it was a hand grenade. According to Aftonbladet, she was thrown over the fence onto the embassy grounds.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson spoke of a “very serious” situation. An attempted attack on an embassy is also an attack on Sweden, he emphasized on X.

The Swedish government announced in October that it would invest an additional ten million crowns (around 889,000 euros) in the security of Jewish institutions. She cited the growing anti-Semitism after the start of the war between Israel and the radical Islamic Hamas in the Gaza Strip as the reason.
