Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal won the doubles toboggan world cup in Oberhof. The Saxon duo won in 1:26.244 minutes and celebrated a track record of 43.049 seconds in the second round.
With the victory, Degenhardt/Rosenthal took the lead in the overall World Cup again ahead of Andrea Vötter/Marion Oberhofer, who came second this time. The Italians were 0.033 seconds behind the German doubles. Third place went to Selina Egle/Lara Michaela Kipp from Austria, who were still in the lead after the first round. Dajana Eitberger/Saskia Schirmer came fourth, 0.518 seconds behind the winners.
“We are totally relieved after the World Cup and the World Cup on our home track in Altenberg went anything but well,” said Degenhardt and confessed: “We have already started to doubt ourselves.”
Hannes Orlamünder/Paul Gubitz and Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt had previously taken second and third place in the men’s doubles. The two duos only had to admit defeat to the Austrians Thomas Steu/Wolfgang Kindl, who won with two best times and a total driving time of 1:23.928 minutes. The Thuringians Orlamünder/Gubitz were 0.123 seconds behind, Wendl/Arlt 0.190 seconds behind. The third German double, Moritz Jäger/Valentin Steudte, finished eleventh. In the overall World Cup, Steu/Kindl further extended their lead with their victory.
“We made the most of our home advantage. It was our best race ever. We are proud to be in front of the two Tobis for the first time,” said Gubitz on ARD.
