At least seven people were killed in a serious bus accident in the center of the Russian Baltic Sea metropolis of St. Petersburg. According to the state agency Tass, the authorities initially spoke of three deaths and four “clinically dead” passengers on the bus that had fallen into a river. Two other passengers were seriously injured and rescued from the wreckage in the Mojka River. A total of around 20 people were on board.

Divers used heavy equipment to lift the sunken bus. According to the authorities, the bus company had already been fined 23 times in the past two years for various violations and shortcomings. The driver of the bus has been temporarily arrested, it was said.
