Thomas Tuchel only wants to make a decision about his next job as a football coach after his time at FC Bayern Munich expires at the beginning of June at the latest. The 50-year-old said before the Bundesliga top game with the German soccer record champions (6.30 p.m./Sky) against RB Leipzig that he had an idea of what his future could look like.

“But the idea has to stay in the drawer until the last game is played. Otherwise it won’t work, otherwise I won’t work,” said Tuchel: “I have very high professional standards for myself. And that only works with 100 percent for the task I’m in now. And that’s Bayern Munich until the end of the season.”

There are currently some interesting top clubs in Europe where, like in Munich, the coaching position needs to be filled for the coming season. Jürgen Klopp (56) is quitting Liverpool FC after nine years. Club legend Xavi Hernández (44) recently announced that he wanted to give up his coaching position at FC Barcelona on June 30th.

Already successes with PSG and Chelsea

Tuchel has worked successfully abroad in the past. With Paris Saint-Germain he became champions in France twice. He won the Champions League in 2021 with top English club FC Chelsea. However, the former Bundesliga coach of Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund has not yet worked in Spain.

“Abroad will definitely appeal to me again, in general,” Tuchel said recently while visiting a Bayern fan club. A more theoretical option for him and the DFB could also be the national coaching position. The contract of ex-Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann (36) expires after the home European Championships this summer.

“Nothing will happen until the end of the season,” Tuchel announced: “I don’t know what will happen from the summer onwards. But I won’t have any influence on it now. That’s never worked for me, thinking about other things while I’m on the job to plan other things. This job only works 100 percent for me.”
